Daniel Defense Modular Float Rail Installation Instructions

25.01.2019

The Daniel Defense MFR 9.0™ is a 9' CNC machined modular free float handguard. It is specifically designed to adequately cover a low profile gas block on a carbine or mid-length gas system barrel.

Front and rear sling adaptors are integrated into the left and right side rails. The DDM4 rail measures 1.9 inches wide and 2.165 inches high with an inner diameter of 1.08 inches. Aside from the slimmer, more compact design of the rail, the length required for each DDM4 model will not change. Versions traditionally offered with an Omega X or Omega X with FSP will be replaced with the DDM4 rail with same length and option based on the barrel configuration. Unlike the other rail systems offered by Daniel Defense, the DDM4 rail will only be offered as part of a complete rifle or upper receiver group and will not be available for individual sale. Two of the Daniel Defense versions will remain unchanged. The DDM4v7 series will continue to be built utilizing the Daniel Defense Modular Float Rail 12.

The slim profile feature of the MFR 12.0 keeps the shooter’s support hand close to the bore which aids in firearm manipulation, and the design and construction allow for the attachment of Picatinny Rail Sections at standard 90 degree or offset angles.

The entire system was designed to provide the pinnacle of modular adaptability.

That's part of what keeps me away from the Troy tubes; for right or wrong they just don't seem bomb proof to me. Of course in the v5 vs v7 debate, for me one of the biggest factors is the barrel. Unless I'm mistaken the v7 isn't offered with a LW barrel which I've become a big fan of. OP enjoy your tour.

Daniel Defense makes a good quality product but their level of ‘Innovation’ is notably lacking. They made their name just taking a quality existing product and ‘improving’ it – usually by cutting down the weight slightly. I don’t see much of any improvement in this over the already proven Troy modular products. I’m sure this is a quality product – the 12″ version clearly is – but the only way they can ‘Improve’ upon the Troy is by some how magically beating them at price point.

Upon tighting the set screws, the MFR was pulled back towards the upper receiver and the gap was sufficiently closed. Now for a brief comparison between the MFR and VTAC. I have been using the VTAC for several months and like it alot, but feel it could benefit from a stronger mounting system, which the MFR has. The MFR is noticeably larger than the VTAC, though not by much. The outer diameter of the MFR is 1.76' verse the 1.74' of the VTAC.

If I was going without an FSP, I'd want something more solid in lockup than the Omega X rail. I think the MFR is a bit better in that regard and of course the Lite rail is about the best in terms of lockup. Can you comment a little bit on why you feel the MFR has a more secure mounting system than the Omega X? I don't have any experience with the MFR but I do have a v1 and it seems rock solid. I'm currently trying to decide between a new v5 or v7 upper and one of many factors in the decision is how secure the hand guard mounts.

Production of the Daniel Defense MK18 will continue to include the RIS II rail that was designed for USSOCOM.

Daniel Defense DDM4v7 Mid Length 16' with MFR 12' Handguard and BCG This product includes: Upper Group, Bolt Carrier Group, and Charging Handle. The Daniel Defense V7 Upper Receiver Group is built off the extremely popular V5 platform. We incorporated the new Modular Float Rail 12.0 to provide each shooter with the ultimate in modular adaptability.

This opened the door to other standard muzzle devices. Leads me to wonder if you are measuring your barrel in the correct legal way. The correct way to measure the barrel is via a rod down the barrel, from the closed bolt face to the muzzle. If you include the barrel extension on an AR barrel you'll get the extra 1/2' which is not part of the legal barrel length.

At this time, there are a few options for mounting your sling to the MFR 12.0. First is to get a rail mount Sling Adapter and utilize one of the picatinny rail sections of the MFR.

I actually just took the Omega X rail off my v5 yesterday and Im installing a RIS II rail tomorrow. If you have the correct tools it is a breeze. It took me maybe 15 minutes to get it all disassembled. I know the Omega X and the MFR rail use the same tool for disassembly but ive never removed/installed the MFR rail. But it sounds like DD is gonna take care of you. Im a HUGE DD fan so if you are able to take some pics you'll have to share them with us, along with your experience!:D Talked to DD yesterday, and worked out a pretty sweet deal.

Since their ‘Tier 1’ name is laser engraved on this product, I don’t suspect their intention is to offer anything at a lower price for the consumer. Windows installer version 4.5 download.

Second is to utilize a Blue Force Gear Universal Wire Loop (UWL). Third is to have Superior Firearms do this. We do intend on manufacturing some proprietary accessories for the Modular Float Rail, but it will be later on down the road. We have no specifics on what we will produce or when they will be available at this time. While looking over the rail I didn't immediately notice an anti-rotation feature, and when looking at the mounting system, which is four set screws positioned equi-distant around the rail at 45* which sit in a 360* groove, it looked like there might have been some cause for concern. However, closer inspection showed that the tube extended about 1/16' past the top rail on the sides and indexed quite nicely on both sides of the upper reciever, a feature devoid of in the VTAC design. After sliding the rail over the barrel onto the barrel nut, it felt rather loose, as though something was not mating up correctly.

Also, there was a substantial gap between the upper and tube. I decide to RTFI and DD mentioned this looseness as a point at which to line the tube and receiver rails up before installing the set screws.

The Daniel Defense Modular Float Rail Accessory Rail (3.0”- 7 slot) is designed to facilitate the attachment of a wide range of rail mounted accessories to the Modular Float Rail platform (12.0” and 9.0”). This can include various optical, reflexive, and B.U.I.S sighting tools as well as assorted illumination devices, audio/visual recording equipment, miscellaneous fore-grips and rail fastened sling mounts. The Accessory Rail sections can be installed easily at various offsets to suit individual operator preference.

In addition, the installation of Modular Picatinny Rails is accomplished with little effort. This allows you to have rails anywhere you need them and nowhere you don’t.

As a bonus, the scheduled me a tour of the entire facility:dance3: If I am allowed to take some pics with the Iphone I will. I'm eager to see a cold hammer forging machine underway. All in all, I'm pretty pumped.

My Boy Scout Troop 742 met at American Legion Post 742 in Fairview, PA. Also 7:42 AM was the morning bell for homeroom in my High School. Maybe I should play the lottery today with that number. I had previously read about the Griffin Armament M4-SD Compensator which performed nearly identically to the Battlecomp, save for a little more flash (and ~$50 less to boot), so I ordered one from Joe Bob Outfitters using code 'carolina' to save a few more bucks. After watching surf's Youtube vid on shaving an FSB (seen here ) I decided to give it a whirl. I practiced on a.750 FSB I had lying around then it was on to the real one. Let me say that the taper pins on this upper were UNREAL!

On this gun the MFR is just want I need, free float, quality handguard, lightweight and made in Georgia. Then: Now: http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/DSCI1990.JPG. Man I am jealous!! That should be an awesome experience!!.

Daniel Defense makes some quality products, but for the price you can get an innovative Troy Alpha Rail with or without built in front sight for less than that They’ve been on the market for quite some time. Reverend Clint — You could have the lower front (6 o’clock position) of your slick side free float handguard drilled and tapped (by a gunsmith) to install & secure a sling swivel stud for very little cost. Then you’ll be able to mount a quality Harris Bi-pod of whichever model / height you’d like.
